Overview

We take the protection of your data seriously. makerOS is deliberately data-minimal: no sign-up, no tracking, no advertising cookies. Personal data is only processed to the extent necessary for the secure technical operation of the site. The legal basis – unless stated otherwise – is our legitimate interest in the functional, secure operation of the website (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).

Hosting

This website is hosted by Vercel Inc. (340 S Lemon Ave #4133, Walnut, CA 91789, USA). When you access the site, Vercel processes technically necessary data (incl. IP address, date/time, page requested, browser type). As Vercel is a US provider, data may be transferred to the USA on the basis of the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and/or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. A data processing agreement is in place with Vercel.

Server log files

The host automatically collects information in server log files that your browser transmits (IP address, time, requested URL, referrer, browser/operating system). This data is used solely for security and stable operation and is not merged with other data sources.

Content & images

Content and images are delivered via the content management system Sanity (Sanity AS, Norway/EEA) including a content delivery network. When content/images are loaded, your IP address is transmitted to the CDN for technical reasons. A data processing agreement is in place with Sanity.

Cookies

We only use one technically necessary cookie to store your language choice (DE/EN). It contains no profiles and is not used for analytics or advertising. No consent is required for technically necessary cookies (Sec. 25 (2) TDDDG).

Fonts

The fonts used (Geist) are served locally from our server (self-hosted). No connection is established to Google Fonts or other third parties; no data is transferred to third parties for this purpose.

Download & distribution (GitHub)

The makerOS app is provided for download via the GitHub platform (GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA – a Microsoft company). When you visit the makerOS GitHub page or download the app, GitHub processes technically necessary connection data (incl. IP address, date/time, requested file, browser type) as its own controller. Data may be transferred to the USA; GitHub relies on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and/or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework for this. Bug reports (GitHub Issues)

For bug reports and improvement suggestions we use the „Issues" feature on GitHub. To post there you need a GitHub account; your GitHub username and the content you enter (description, any logs, screenshots) are stored publicly on GitHub and processed by GitHub. We process this content solely to fix bugs and improve makerOS (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Please do not include any sensitive personal data, passwords or API keys in bug reports.

App update check

The installed makerOS app may periodically check GitHub for a newer version. For technical reasons this transmits your IP address to GitHub. Beyond this, the app sends no usage or telemetry data to us; we store no data about your use of the app. If you use optional cloud AI services in the app with your own access, the data transmitted is processed by the respective providers according to their privacy policies.

Payments (premium)

When you purchase a paid premium licence, payment is processed by Lemon Squeezy (Lemon Squeezy LLC, USA) acting as the "Merchant of Record". Lemon Squeezy is the seller and contractual partner for the purchase, handles the payment and accounts for VAT. The data required for this (e.g. name, email, payment/billing data, IP address) is processed by Lemon Squeezy; their privacy policy applies (https://www.lemonsqueezy.com/privacy). Note: makerOS is currently free of charge; no checkout currently takes place.

Your rights

You have the right at any time to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing (Art. 21 GDPR). To exercise these rights, please use the contact details in the imprint.

Right to complain

Without prejudice to any other remedy, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state of your residence.
